MJ Thriller Sobe Commercial Rated #1 Ads "Thriller"

Michael Jackson : At this point nobody wants to see the actual King of Pop in a TV ad, but the slimy digital reptiles doing the "Thriller" dance to promote the 25th anniversary of the singer's landmark album (oh, and SoBe Life Water too) were almost as creepy as a trip to Neverland Ranch.

I think its ******** that this biased writer would write that **** about that MJ thriller Sobe commercial.There was nothing wrong with the commercial and if you noticed its one of the top ten favorite commercials in the superbowl.Mtv kiss ass to artist and turn their backs on them. MJ made mtv but it seems MTV dont care there just concerned abou making money. Jordin Sparks great performance? HA!

I havent seen the MJ advert but this article is clearly biased towards glorifying Madonna and Timberlake. MJ deserves far more respect than this article gives him. All reference made to the superbowl have quoted MJ's masterpiece in use as a plus. MTV never forget that, unlike Timberlake and Madonna, MJ was global before MTV and CNN! It is for this very reason that the whole mainstream media institution collectively have not been able to topple his legacy. MJ stay strong and focused, your fans have got your back! By the way, JT is simply over-rated. Point blank.

I am appalled that MTV would make such a statement about Michael Jackson!!!! It was millions of people who wanted to see Michael that made MTV. The commercial is rated in the top 10 on every other site. The only thing "nobody wants to see" is some biased writer who doesn't even know what people want.

Anyone can nail the National Anthem when it's pre-recorded. Jordin Sparks gets no props in my opinion, yeah it sounded great but that's what happens when you sing it in the studio. She even faked the nervousness. How you can be nervous when you're not even going to really sing?!!?!?

I do not think that Jordan Sparks should be a "winner" What ever happened to the American Idol should be able to sing during all sorts of conditions and to bad that her rendition of the national anthem was pre-recorded. Ok, Whitney Houston might have lip sang it as well but at least you could not tell... It was so easy to tell that Jordan Sparks was not singing the song live

We Need a Good Whuppin -- November 2004

0 No doubt you have memories of your parents giving you what we called a whuppin. You probably thought they were mean and didnt love you, right? Your parents, on the other hand, probably felt terrible too, even though you deserved that whuppin they didnt want to see you hurt, and they surely didnt want to be the ones to inflict the pain. Its the same way today with us as adult Black people. Our elders, which I have officially joined, as of August 2004, love us and do not want to see us hurt, but they need to give us a good whuppin every now and then.

In my frustration, not only after the voting irregularities in the 2004 election, I pulled out a cassette tape I bought four years ago, right after that last presidential selection. It was recorded by an elder whom I love and highly respect. His name is Kwa David Whitaker, of Cleveland, Ohio. The presentation on the tape is titled, The Wake Up Call. I am telling you right now, you must get a copy of this brothers discourse.

Brother Whitaker recorded his insightful, enlightening, and prophetic words in November 2000. He expertly weaved the Gore/Bush election scenario into an easy-to-understand football analogy, explained what position Black folks are in vis-à-vis the U.S. political system, and told us how to win, despite the system being stacked against us. When I first heard it, I called Kwa David and thanked him for turning out such a fantastic piece of communication to our people. I then bought several copies of the tape and gave them to others.

No one loves Black people more than Kwa David, but I know hed rather whup us than to see someone else do it. So, how about another one, Bro? I dont believe there has ever been a time that Black people in this country have been so dysfunctional, so apathetic, so gullible, so afraid, so irresolute, so unconcerned, so lemming-like, and so willing to capitulate to the whims and desires of every other group, while turning our backs on the interests and needs of our own people.

In Cincinnati, I see black folks selling their souls to an inept, corrupt, and biased political administration. I see them acquiesce to greedy power-hungry corporate executives, denying Black people even the slightest opportunity for collective economic advancement.

I have seen it all in this city, and it is getting worse. We have ignorant, cowering, volunteer-slave blacks who have been chosen to do the bidding of the establishment, and they do it with the pride and aplomb of a Colin Powell, Armstrong Williams, or Condoleezza Rice. No, let me make that Clarence Thomas.

Yes, we need a good whuppin, and I hope it starts right here in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moves out from here, because as Kweisi Mfume said in reference to the boycott of this city, this is ground zero. He also said, 'If [racial discrimination and mistreatment] are not solved here, they won't be solved anywhere. Tell that to Dick Gregory and Bev Smith, who are scheduled to break the boycott of Cincinnati, and all the other black entertainers who have already broken it. Good luck, Mfume.

Kwa Davids Wake Up call was apropos in 2000, and it is even more apropos in 2004, except now it must be accompanied by a good whuppin. Remember how you wouldnt get out of bed when your parents called you in the morning? Remember what happened when they stopped calling? They started whuppin you out of the bed Well, thats what we need now Brother Whitaker.

Whup us until we stop relying on weak, ignorant, uninformed talking heads on radio and television for our directional information. They are flunkies and lackeys, and will say whatever they think will put them in good stead with someone elses checkbook. Give me more of Tom Pope, Cliff Kelley, and other Black talk show hosts who are unafraid and will not compromise the economic future of their own people.

Whup us until we stop sitting back and taking the injustice of a racist police department, such as the one in Cincinnati. Whup us until we stop consenting to economic apartheid and exclusion, such as what we have in Cincinnati. Whup us until we no longer accept the corrupt voting systems, such as the ones we experienced in Cincinnati and around Ohio.

Whup us until we stand up like Black men and women and do what we must for ourselves and for our children. Whup us until we wake up, get up, stand up, and start fighting back. Until then, keep whuppin us because we need a good whuppin.

BRATTLEBORO (ruthlandherald.com) Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont.

The Brattleboro Select Board voted 3-2 Friday to put the controversial item on the Town Meeting Day warning.

According to Town Clerk Annette Cappy, organizers of the Bush-Cheney issue gathered enough signatures, and it was up to the Select Board whether Brattleboro voters would consider the issue in March.

Cappy said residents will get to vote on the matter by paper balloting March 4.

Kurt Daims, 54, of Brattleboro, the organizer of the petition drive, said Friday the debate to get the issue on the ballot was a good one. Opposition to the vote focused on whether the town had any power to endorse the matter.

""It is an advisory thing,"" said Daims, a retired prototype machinist and stay-at-home dad of three daughters.

So far, Vermont is the only state Bush hasn't visited since he became president in 2001.

Daims said the most grievous crime committed by Bush and Cheney was perjury lying to Congress and U.S. citizens about the basis of a war in Iraq.

He said the latest count showed a total of 600,000 people have died in the war.

Daims also said he believed Bush and Cheney were also guilty of espionage for spying on American people and obstruction of justice, for the politically generated firings of U.S. attorneys.

Voting to put the matter on the town ballot were Chairwoman Audrey Garfield and board members Richard Garrant and Dora Boubalis.

Voting against the idea were board members Richard DeGray and Stephen Steidle.

Daims said the names submitted to the town clerk's office were the second wave of signatures the petition drive had to collect, because he had to rewrite the wording of the petition.

He said he gathered nearly 500 signatures in about three weeks, and he said most people he encountered were eager to sign it. He started the petition drive about three months ago.

""Everybody I talked to wanted Bush to go,"" he said, noting that even members of the local police department supported the drive.

""This is exactly what the charter envisioned as a citizen initiative,"" Daims said. ""People want to express themselves and they want to say how they feel.""

He said the idea is spreading: Activists in Louisville, Ky., are spearheading a similar drive, and he said activists were also working in Montague, Mass., a Berkshires town.

The article asked the town attorney to ""draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution and publish said indictments for consideration by other authorities.""

The article goes on to say the indictments would be the ""law of the town of Brattleboro that the Brattleboro police ... arrest and detain George Bush and Richard Cheney in Brattleboro, if they are not duly impeached ...""

Daims said people in Brattleboro were willing to ""think outside the box"" and consider the issue.

Daims had no compunction in comparing Bush and Cheney with one of the most notorious people in history.

""If Hitler were still alive and walked through Brattleboro, I think the local police would arrest him for war crimes,"" Daims said

And Oprah shall lead them all. The talk show and lifestyle guru tops the list of Forbes 100 Most Powerful Celebrities.

It was a year of conquest in Hollywood. The worldwide box office soared to a record $25.8 billion, buoyed by global blockbusters like Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and Sony's "The Da Vinci Code." Madonna reclaimed her title as the mightiest force in music, thanks to her record-breaking Confessions tour, which drew over a million fans and generated $195 million in ticket sales. And golf ace Tiger Woods banked $100 million, more in a single year than any athlete in history.

Tinseltown's triumphs are reflected in this year's Celebrity 100, Forbes' annual list of the world's most powerful and best-paid celebrities. To generate the list, Forbes analyzes celebrity earnings, plus media metrics like Google hits, press mentions as compiled by Lexis/Nexis, TV and radio mentions from Factiva and the number of times an A-lister appears on the cover of 32 major consumer magazines.

Earnings estimates are for June 2006 to June 2007 and consist of dollars earned solely from entertainment-related income. Management, agent and attorney fees have not been deducted.

Barack Obamas campaign has just moved its Oprah event on Sunday from an arena in Columbia seating 18,000 to a football stadium with a capacity of more than 80,000.

Tickets, which are free, went quickly on Monday, when they were first available, and the campaign had to shut down its distribution system. Now, the campaign says, tickets arent even necessary, although it hopes people will RSVP through its Web site.

The new venue is Williams-Brice Stadium at the University of South Carolina. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., Eastern and the event starts at 2:30 p.m.
