Fixed-mobile convergence has a new ally: Deutsche Telekom has announced a trial, working with Nokia, of a service that allows users to make voice and data calls via wifi or regular mobile networks. We'll watch with interest. The service, by the way, is called T-One, in English.

PLDT picks Clarity for NGN transformation
Philippines operator PLDT has picked Clarity as the strategic OSS platform for the transformation of its fixed network to NGN. The development will involve closer coordination with the operator's wireless business, said CEO Napoleon Nazareno. Fixed customers will be migrated to NGN products, said Clarity.

Valista handles half of Hutch's mobile top-ups in Sri Lanka
A system provided by e-payment specialist Valista is processing half of all mobile top-ups for Hutchison's operation in Sri Lanka, less than six months after it went into operation. Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka is using Valista's TopupPlus Streetseller, which eliminates the need for scratch cards or e-vouchers - and allows credit to be transferred from one handset to another for a cash payment, using street vendors and corner shops.

Nominum launches electronic directory for VoIP services
Nominum has introduced an ENUM-based IP-application routing directory server that enables the connection of advanced IP-based communications services between separate networks. Its Navitas provides provisioning, access and management interfaces to help run converging network interconnections, said Nominum, providing the necessary information to handle local number portability data, resolve SIP to URI translation, and route sessions between IP networks. Nominum will work with Evolving Systems to test the new service.

Cable operator RCN renews Convergys contract
Convergys has won a five year deal with US cable operator RCN for billing and customer care. The deal covers ICOMS convergent voice, video, and data billing and customer care systems and provides options for RCN to use components of Infinys, Convergys's business support system. RCN operates in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington, DC.

InfoVista introduces new network performance tools
InfoVista has introduced a version of its next-generation performance management solution, VistaInsight for Networks for Service Providers, specifically designed for metro ethernet technologies and IP VPNs. VIN for Service Providers 2.0 includes performance management, customer-reporting enhancements, metro ethernet reporting and enhanced quality of service reporting.
