American Idol: Jordin Sparks Performs The National Anthem During the Super Bowl XLII

By Gil Kaufman. For years now, the NFL has been bedazzling the Super Bowl with busloads of Hollywood stars and singers in an attempt to distract viewers from the fact that the game is usually a snooze-worthy blowout. But thanks to the New York Giants' historic last-minute victory Sunday night over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots, as well as an arena-rock-worthy halftime show from American icon Tom Petty, the people behind the big game finally got the mix of music and smash mouth right. (Except for the moments when it got things so, so wrong, which were also kind of great.) And so, we give you the first Super Bowl Musical Monday Morning Quarterback Report. (Also check out our take on Super Bowl movie ads are you pumped for the next potential blockbusters?)

The Big Winners

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Classic rock has become the new standard at the big show, thanks to recent gigs by the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and last year's guitar-stroking extravaganza from Prince. And despite the suggestive beating-heart-pierced-by-Flying-V-guitar opening, laid-back Petty played his four-song halftime gig as if he were just strolling in for another night of work by the world's best bar band. No corny medleys, no hokey gimmicks, just unforgettable anthems that, frankly, by the end of the night couldn't have been more apt for both teams: "I Won't Back Down" (Giants), "Free Fallin' " (Patriots) and the nothing-but-hustle rocker "Runnin' Down a Dream" (Giants again).

Jordin Sparks performs the National Anthem During the Super Bowl XLII pregame show.

arrives at a reception celebrating the 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in which she appears on the cover at the Pacific Design Center on February 14.

Superstar Beyonce Knowles has thrilled her male fans and exposed her sensual side by posing on the cover of this year's swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.

The singer watched what she ate before the photo shoot and admits she found the experience nerve-wracking.

She says, "It takes a lot of guts. I'm really a shy person.

"But in my everyday world, as a musical performer, I'm playing a character. I had to tap that same character."

Obama Family,

I hope all is well with you all.  Below, please find the latest numbers of registered voters.  As seen, Georgia numbers are AWFUL.... For the past few weekends, I have been working voters' registration, speaking with the youth about the importance of voting, etc.  I know we are all working hard for change, but we must increase our efforts in Georgia.  As you know, Georgia has been RED for the past few elections and this is our time to make a difference.  Senator Obama has provided Georgia with offices and resources - I am asking, please work with your local Obama office and let's get people registered.

October 6th is the deadline for voter's registration - please help make Georgia BLUE and let's get involved.  For your convenience, I have provided all of the local Obama offices below - contact them today and let's do this.... If we do not do it for ourselves, then no one wi ll.  Together, we can make Georgia BLUE.

If you have any problems contacting or locating an Obama office, then please let me know.

This is what enables me to use space images on my blog - and keeps tens of thousands of such images in the public domain.

This is what the NASA official website currently has to say about it:
NASA still images, audio files and video generally are not copyrighted. You may use NASA imagery, video and audio material for educational or informational purposes, including photo collections, textbooks, public exhibits and Internet Web pages. This general permission extends to personal Web pages.

Significantly, this includes commercially produced and marketed products, even though NASAs guidelines make it clear: If the though NASAs guidelines make it clear: If the NASA material is to be used for commercial purposes, especially including advertisements, it must not explicitly or implicitly convey NASAs endorsement of commercial goods or services

There are some reasonable restrictions on this fair use. Read the full NASA copyright policy.
