Hot seat for telecoms
Who would you rather be this week? Sol Trujillo of Telstra dealing with extraordinarily aggressive Australian politicians - who are upset that he went to 3GSM in Barcelona instead of meeting a committee of senators. Or John Pluthero of Cable & Wireless, who's looking for a graceful way of losing 27,000 customers and focussing on the 3,000 that provide 96% of revenue. And half his UK staff. Form an orderly queue here please.
Alan Burkitt-Gray.

Call data records to be used for securitised finance
French bank Natexis Banques Populaires and its credit management unit Coface have set up an operation to finance telecoms companies based on securitising interconnect traffic. The bank is using call data records provided by relatively unknown company Londesborough Finance, based in the UK. Londesborough's system takes out the fraud and error risk, according to its CEO Guy Jackson. Rodney Ballard, head of structured trade finance at Natexis, said the potential is $900 million of secured receivables a year in three years. A spokesman said one telecoms operator had already signed up but did not name it.
